President Obama plans to announce his Supreme Court pick, replacing the spot left vacant by the death last month of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, at 11 a.m. ET Wednesday morning from the Rose Garden. "I'm doing my job," Obama said in a statement. "I hope our senators will do their jobs and move quickly to consider my nominee."
Senate Republicans have vowed to block Obama's nominee, and have even said they will deny a private meeting with this person.
Some speculate that Obama will pick D.C. Circuit Judge Sri Srinivasan, who was unanimously confirmed by the Senate in May 2013, and would therefore be awkward for Senate Republicans to block. Merrick Garland, a Clinton appointee, is also considered to be on the shortlist.
