Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) sat down with Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday's Kimmel Live, and Kimmel brought up Cruz's reputed unpopularity among his Senate colleagues. After reading some choice quotes from Cruz's fellow GOP senators, Kimmel asked what's going on. "When you stand up to Washington, they don't like it," Cruz said, adding that lots of people in the party are now supporting him because he's not Donald Trump. "That is interesting," Kimmel said. "What you did is you kind of held out until they found someone that they like less than you." Cruz didn't try to disagree: "There you go. It is a powerful strategy, and compare to Donald I am the quiet, shy, soft-spoken one."
Cruz went on to argue that he is unpopular because unlike other politicians, he does what he promised he would do, like fight the "disaster" of ObamaCare. Kimmel jumped in: "Is that really a disaster? Because it just doesn't feel like it is." The audience cheered. "The word 'disaster' is a strong word to use," he added, explaining that none of his friends or acquaintances have been crushed by the health care law. "I agree that it is probably not a disaster with millionaire Hollywood movie stars and rock stars," Cruz replied, prompting a laughing retort from Kimmel: "You think that these are the only people I hang around with?"
