A Virginia state trooper died after being shot multiple times Thursday at a Greyhound bus station in Richmond, Virginia.
Police Trooper Chad Dermyer, 37, was shot by a man who opened fire near the entrance to the bus station while troopers were finishing a training exercise, NBC News reports. He died later in the hospital. The suspected gunman died when two other troopers returned fire, a state police spokeswoman said, and two civilians were also injured during the shooting.
The gunman has been identified by police, but they will not release his name until his family is notified of his death. He has a history of charges against him, Virginia State Police Superintendent Steven Flaherty said during a press conference, and officials told NBC News "the gunman appears to have been mentally disturbed."
