In endorsement, New York Post says Trump 'reflects the best of 'New York values''
The New York Post is backing Donald Trump in the New York Republican primary, calling him a "potential superstar of vast promise," but acknowledging he is "making rookie mistakes."
The editorial board says it expects that Trump, a born and bred New Yorker, will "pivot, not just on the issues, but in his manner," if he locks the nomination. Once that happens, he needs to start behaving "more presidential: better informed on policy, more self-disciplined, and less thin-skinned."
Trump is a "do-er" who has created jobs for thousands of people, the editorial continues, and inspires Americans who have "given up on ever again having a candidate who'd fight for them." At the same time, his language has "too often been amateurish, divisive — and downright coarse," and his "Build the Wall" position is "far too simplistic a policy for a nation of immigrants." The editorial ends on an optimistic note, saying Trump reflects the best of "New York values" and has the potential and skills to "live up to his campaign slogan: to make America great again."
