Prince's birthday won't go uncelebrated in his home state of Minnesota. On Tuesday, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton declared June 7, 2016 — what would've been the late pop star's 58th birthday — to be "Prince Day." The governor issued a proclamation encouraging Minnesotans to wear the color purple "in honor of The Purple One's enduring legacy." "Prince was the creator of 'The Minneapolis Sound,' a contribution not only to the global catalogue of music genres, but to Minnesota's worldwide prominence and its economic growth," Dayton's proclamation read.

The seven-time Grammy winner died in April from an accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl.
