In the wake of the Orlando shooting, Seth Meyers has harsh words for Donald Trump
There's still a lot to process regarding the Orlando shooting, and on Monday's Late Night, host Seth Meyers took a closer look at the tragedy.
He started on a positive note, praising the "tremendous outpourings of compassion and goodwill" in Orlando — hundreds of people lined up to give blood, more than $2 million has been raised for families of victims, and LGBT centers have been flooded with donations. When it comes to the details of the attack, Meyers says one thing is certain: "Whether the shooter was a homophobe, mentally ill, a terrorist inspired by ISIS, or all three, what allowed him to kill so many people on Sunday is his gun."
Meyers examined statistics regarding gun availability and homicides, and let Donald Trump have it for his tweet about receiving congratulations for being "right" about terrorism — most of this edition of "A Closer Look" was devoid of humor, but he did get in a jab against Trump. "I don't know who has been congratulating Donald Trump, but you may want to redirect your congratulations to the first responders or those waiting in line to give blood," Meyers said. "They're the ones who deserve congrats and they're not asking for it. I have a feeling Donald Trump's not giving blood and if he did no one would want it because it probably looks like ectoplasm."
