The Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Issues released a travel advisory Friday for citizens of the Bahamas who plan to visit the United States, warning travelers about police brutality and subsequent demonstrations.
"We wish to advise all Bahamians traveling to the U.S. but especially to the affected cities to exercise appropriate caution generally," the message said. "In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police. Do not be confrontational and cooperate [or] get involved in political or other demonstrations under any circumstances."
More than eight in 10 Bahamians are of African heritage. The warning comes after two black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, were killed by police this week, prompting protests across America.
