Brazilian police have arrested 10 suspects and are seeking two more over an alleged plot to launch a terrorist attack at next month's Rio Olympics Games. Brazil's Justice Ministry said Thursday that the Brazilian Islamist group plotting the attacks was "baptized" by the Islamic State, and reportedly had both promoted ISIS propaganda online and tried to contact the terrorist group over the internet. The suspects, all Brazilian nationals, were allegedly discussing using weapons and guerrilla tactics for the attack.
The arrests follow Brazil's efforts to step up security after last week's attack on a Bastille Day celebration in Nice, France, which killed 84. Police are investigating the suspects' computers and phones to unearth more information about the attack plans. The opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics takes place Aug. 5.
