Trump breaks from Republican Party platform to advocate for LGBTQ community

Despite the 2016 GOP platform officially being one of the least LGBTQ-friendly in history, Donald Trump loudly advocated for LGBTQ citizens Thursday night while accepting the Republican presidential nomination. "As your president, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of the hateful foreign ideology. Believe me," he said to cheers.
"I have to say, as a Republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering at what I just said," Trump added.
Curiously, despite often railing against "political correctness," Trump included the "Q," standing for "queer" or "questioning," into the more-commonly written acronym "LGBT." The Q has been added by advocate groups in recent years to "focus on other progressive issues that aren't necessarily L, G, B, or T," Americablog explains.
