Meg Whitman calls Trump 'dangerous demagogue,' says she's voting for Clinton

Meg Whitman — the president and CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, a onetime California gubernatorial candidate, and prominent GOP fundraiser — is supporting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

"I will vote for Hillary, I will talk to my Republican friends about helping her, and I will donate to her campaign and try to raise money for her," she told The New York Times. Whitman said she does not agree with Clinton on every issue, but it's time for Republicans to "put country first before party." Donald Trump is a "dangerous demagogue," she said, who could take the country on a "very dangerous journey" and has already "undermined the character of the nation."

Whitman said Clinton called her last month, and she waited until after the conventions to make her decision. An aide said Whitman plans to send the Clinton campaign a donation in the mid-six-figures, and Whitman said she's already talked with contributors open to giving to Clinton. Whitman, who is close to 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney, said while she is supporting Clinton, she will remain a Republican.
