Terror threat suspect shot and killed by police in Canada
On Wednesday, police in Ontario, Canada, killed a man suspected of being part of a terrorist plot.
Authorities say they received "credible information of a potential terrorist act," CBC News reports, and they conducted a raid at a home in the city of Strathroy, 140 miles southwest of Toronto. A family member confirmed to CBC News that the man killed was 24-year-old Aaron Driver, who was arrested last year after he posted messages online supporting the Islamic State, using the alias Harun Abdurahman.
Driver's family was told by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that he was shot after he detonated a device that injured himself and another person, CBC News reports, and that he had another device nearby. The Canadian Press was told by a senior police official that the suspect allegedly planned to carry out a suicide bombing in a crowded area. Earlier this year, Driver was placed on a peace bond, and ordered not to use the internet to contact anyone affiliated with ISIS or other militant groups.
