The Brazilian Senate has voted by a three-quarter majority to impeach suspended President Dilma Rousseff. Rouseff, 68, had been accused of hurting Brazil's economy through misrepresentation of the nation's financial problems, but she has consistently denied any wrongdoing. In a 14-hour trial Monday, Rousseff said, "I did not commit the crimes that I am arbitrarily and unjustly accused of … [W]e are one step away from a real coup d'etat."

Rousseff will likely appeal to Brazil's highest court, "but previous appeals during the process have failed," The Associated Press reports. Acting President Michel Temer will serve out the remainder of Rousseff's term, which ends December 2018.
