Donald Trump needs to win Ohio to stand a decent shot at winning the White House, but the newest Monmouth University poll indicates there's a chance that won't happen. The latest poll of the Buckeye State, out Wednesday, shows Hillary Clinton 2 points ahead of Trump, 44 percent to 42 percent. When it comes to temperament, 59 percent of likely Ohio voters say Clinton has the "right temperament for the job," while only 33 percent say the same for Trump.
Still, Clinton's latest lead is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 points — and it's also a slight slip from the last time the same poll was taken, back in August. Amid her post-convention surge, Clinton led by 4 points then.
That said, Monmouth's poll presents a different narrative from most other Ohio polls. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Trump ahead by 2.4 points, and aside from a CBS News/YouGov poll taken at the beginning of September that put Clinton 7 points ahead, most every other major poll taken in September has Trump in the lead in Ohio, sometimes by as much as 5 points.
