In 'emergency session,' Trumpologists predict a dire end to the election

Four Donald Trump biographers were brought together by Politico Magazine for an "Emergency Session of … Trumpologists" after the recent controversies surrounding Trump's past and his bid for the presidency. The experts' outlook for the rest of the election? "I think he's a very dangerous man for the next three or four weeks," one biographer, Wayne Barrett, said.
Also participating in the conversation was Gwenda Blair, Michael D'Antonio, and Timothy O'Brien, who taken together with Barrett have written thousands of book pages on the Republican nominee. Here's a glimpse at what they see unfolding over the next 27 days (and read their full roundtable in Politico Magazine, here). Jeva Lange

We have seen what kind of polarization [Trump] can evoke over the course of 15 or 16 months, but I'm afraid that he's going to attempt to deepen that in profound ways in the coming weeks. As recently as the convention, he tried to cool down those who said "lock her up," and now he's saying he would lock her up and even describing the way in which he would do it. [Politico Magazine]
Timothy O'Brien
I think he is just going to wage a scorch‑the‑earth campaign for the next three weeks. And if he loses, which I think he's going to — I think he's going to lose badly — he's then going to come up with a scenario in which it was stolen from him, that the election was rigged, because he's survived by creating alternate realities ... He'll just come up with an alternate reality that said, 'It was rigged against me.' [Politico Magazine]
Gwenda Blair
He thinks ... that he is a success. I think he deeply believes that. He can't countenance — you know, his brain won't take in that there's like another possibility. He will continue to call it a success, and at the same time pursue this scorched‑earth approach that we've now seen on full display. [Politico Magazine]
Michael D'Antonio
...It makes you think that he has no frame of reference other than himself, that the country doesn't matter, the peace doesn't matter. Hillary Clinton's physical survival doesn't matter to him. You know, he's going to take it all down, if he's going to lose. [Politico Magazine]
