The grandson of Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), Jovan Wilson, was fatally shot in Chicago Friday night in a dispute believed to have arisen over a pair of gym shoes. He was 14 years old.

Jovan was home with an uncle and several siblings when two other teenagers, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, came into the house. Their argument about the shoes "escalated and turned physical and [the boy] pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the head," said Anthony Guglielmi of the Chicago Police. "This was not random but was egregious and senseless to use a gun over a fight for clothes."

Davis described his late grandson as a typical teenager who liked basketball and music. "I grieve for my family," he said. "I grieve for the young man who pulled the trigger, I grieve for his family, his parents, his friends, some of whom will never see him again."
