Miss North Dakota Cara Mund crowned Miss America
Miss America 2018 is Cara Mund, a 23-year-old from Bismarck, North Dakota.
It's the first time a Miss North Dakota has been crowned Miss America. Mund beat out 50 other contestants Sunday night in Atlantic City, dancing in the talent round and telling judges during the interview portion that she thinks President Trump made a "bad decision" when he pulled the United States out of the Paris climate agreement. "There is evidence that climate change is existing and we need to be at that table," she said.
Before the competition, Mund told The Associated Press her goal is to become the first female governor of North Dakota. "It's important to have a woman's perspective," she said. "In health care and on reproductive rights, it's predominantly men making those decisions."
