Rep. Joe Crowley, fourth-highest House Democrat, loses primary

In an upset, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, lost Tuesday night to primary challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, The Associated Press projects.
With 85 percent of precincts reporting, Crowley, a 10-term congressman, has 42 percent of the vote, compared to Ocasio-Cortez with 58 percent. During the campaign, Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old member of the Democratic Socialists of America, said Crowley was out of touch with his constituents in the 14th district.
