Shutdown looms as House passes spending bill with $5 billion for wall

The Republican-led House passed a stop-gap spending bill on Thursday night that gives President Trump $5 billion for his border wall.

The vote was primarily along party lines, 217-185. The Senate, which passed its own bill on Wednesday with no money for the wall, is unlikely to approve the measure, as it needs to reach 60 votes.

At midnight Friday, funding will run out for nine federal departments, affecting more than 800,000 employees. Caving to pressure from conservatives, President Trump on Thursday said he will not sign any bill that doesn't include funding for a wall.
