Republican National Committee chair denies rumors GOP leaders are making money off of new donor platform
Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is swatting down rumors that she is making money off of a new GOP donor platform called WinRed, Politico reports.
During a meeting in North Carolina on Wednesday, McDaniel told senior Republican officials that no one in the RNC is profiting from WinRed, choking up as she defended herself, three people briefed on the matter told Politico. She said the only money she makes is from her salary, and both the RNC and Trump campaign released statements later in the day stating that no one working for them is personally profiting from WinRed.
WinRed is the GOP's answer to the Democrats' ActBlue platform, and is meant for small donations. The RNC wants this to be the only platform used by Republican campaigns and organizations, and has said it will take away funding from any campaign or group that uses a platform other than WinRed, Politico reports. This has made several party members question why the RNC is pushing so hard for a sole payment processor, including one strategist who runs the platform Anedot; he has said by limiting the number of payment platforms to one, the RNC is basically embracing socialism.
