Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) has been terminated from Fox News, where he has worked as a contributor since January, the network announced on Wednesday.
Several media outlets have reported that Gowdy is joining President Trump's outside legal team, as he deals with the House's impeachment inquiry. The White House sent a letter to House Democrats on Tuesday saying it will not cooperate with the inquiry, and during appearances on Fox News, Gowdy has been highly critical of the probe and House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).
Gowdy decided not to seek re-election in 2018, and is now with the law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. He once served as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and led the congressional investigation into the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, which left U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead.
