McLaren 600LT Spider: prices, specs and UK release
British marque lifts the lid on its track-focused supercar
Six months after releasing its hardcore 600LT supercar, McLaren has revealed plans to add a drop-top Spider version to its range within a matter of weeks.
The 600LT Spider, which previewed in a teaser image two weeks ago, swaps the 600LT Coupe’s fixed-roof for one that can be electronically tucked away. This means drivers will feel the wind in their hair while lapping racing circuits.
The 600LT Spider’s design is almost identical to that of its fixed-roof sibling. The drop-top has the standard 600LT’s twin-exit exhausts mounted directly above the engine bay, as well as the coupe’s small rear wing and vast carbon fibre diffuser.

The drop-top “doesn’t deviate far” from the coupe’s mechanical underpinnings either, says Evo. McLaren has built the Spider around the hard-top’s lightweight “tub”, a carbon fibre structure that holds the cabin and engine mounts.
The strength of the carbon fibre structure ensures there’s “little-to-no compromise” in the engineering of the 600LT Spider as McLaren doesn’t need to add extra weight to stiffen the chassis, the motoring magazine says.
Behind the cabin sits a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 592bhp and 457lb ft of torque. The engine matches the performance figures of the coupe.
McLaren is confident the 600LT Spider will be almost indistinguishable from the coupe on track. The British marque claims it has designed the new car to handle “without compromise” just like the hard-top model.
A mass of power, supercar styling and a foldable roof don’t come cheap, however.
Buyers will need a spare £201,500 in their bank accounts to get their hands on a 600LT Spider. They can expect that price to rise once a few optional extras are added to the bill.
Buyers will need an additional £18,200 to spec the optional MSO Clubsport Pack, for example. The package includes lightweight racing seats, carbon fibre highlights in the car’s interior and titanium wheel bolts.
The 600LT Spider is a limited edition car so it’s best to place your order as soon as possible. Once you have, you can expect to have your new drop-top supercar gleaming from your front drive by March.
