Roomers Munich: go for the craft beer, stay for the arts and crafts
The Bavarian capital is leading the way for creativity in Germany
With a brewery or pub on almost every street and as home to the annual Oktoberfest, it’s easy to just think of Munich as the ultimate destination for beer drinkers.
There’s no doubt that the craft beer scene is a tasty reason to travel to the Bavarian capital, but away from the steiners, dirndl and lederhosen Munich has so more to enjoy and explore - and all-year round.
From shopping to fitness to football, Munich has the lot. And because it’s only a couple of hours flight from the UK it is a perfect place for a 2018 weekender, whatever your interests.

For shoppers there’s the upmarket Maximilianstrasse in the city centre which is home to designer stores, celebrity hang-outs and cafes. It is also just minutes away from grand buildings such as the Bavarian State Opera house on the adjoining Max-Joseph-Platz.
If you are seeking a relaxing break, Munich’s English Garden (pictured bottom) offers hours of walks and exploring. One of the largest urban parks in the world, the English Garden features cycling and running tracks, a Japanese teahouse, Chinese tower, restaurants and - of course - a huge beer garden with room for 7,000 customers.
Even sports fans are well catered to, as Munich is home to FC Bayern, one of the giants of European football, who play at the magnificent Allianz Arena.
Old meets new
Munich has an incredible array of art and design museums and architecturural wonders. Buildings ranging from neo-Gothic to space age gives Munich a perfect mix of old and new.
Munich’s rise as an art and design destination is reflected in its museums and new buildings. One must-visit destination is the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (Muca).
Street art and ‘calligraffiti’ feature heavily at Muca. Munich’s biggest art mural is painted on the outside of the building and inside artistic touches can be found throughout the exhibition spaces, restaurant and even the toilets.
A perfect hideaway
If design is your thing, then it’s definitely worth checking in at the newly opened Roomers Munich, an Autograph Collection Hotels property.
Located on Landsberger Strasse west of the city centre, Roomers Munich is a hotel with design fully at its forefront.
The building was formerly an office block but it has been transformed into a 281-bed hotel featuring funky designs and ultra-modern furnishings.
Roomers is also home to the Izakaya Japanese kitchen and bar, a gym, library area and the soon-to-open spa that will feature an infinity jacuzzi with cinema screen.
For party-goers it’s worth a visit to Roomers just to get inside the ‘Hidden Room’ - an exclusive club-style space with its own DJ.
Design for life
Walking round the streets of Munich it’s easy to see why designers and artists are taking their creative skills to this city.
With mega-structures such as the Allianz Arena and the futuristic BMW Museum adding to the various galleries, music halls and party hot spots, Munich can certainly rival its European counterparts for creativity.
So, if you are in Munich then definitely enjoy some craft beers while exploring the city. But also make time to drink in the architecture, art and design of this Bavarian beauty.
