These specially bred grapes taste like spun sugar

Since their arrival in select supermarkets several years ago, Cotton Candy grapes ($6 per pound) "have taken on an almost mythical status." They really do taste like spun sugar, and because their season lasts only from Aug. 10 to Sept. 20, they sell out fast. Grapery, the California company that grows them, developed them through old-fashioned cross-pollination and sells other organic hybrid varieties too. If the company website fails to help you locate a retailer still selling Cotton Candy grapes, look next for Moon Drop grapes, whose eggplant-like shape and color are great for Halloween — "as if you needed an excuse to make a cheese platter."
