Today’s front pages: defiant May won’t leave until September
A round up of the headlines from UK newspapers on 8 May

It’s a mixed bag this morning after yesterday’s royal baby takeover.
The Times leads with the news that a “defiant” Theresa May will cling on to power until the Conservative party conference in September, despite being urged by Tory backbenchers to spell out a faster timetable for departure before the summer recess. The paper says the news has forced some previously loyal MPs to switch sides. “One senior Remain supporter might call for May to go in the coming days,” it says.
The Daily Telegraph, meanwhile, has wind of another MPs’ expenses scandal, exactly a decade on from its original investigation. According to the paper, Parliament’s spending watchdog tried to withhold information that 377 MPs have had their government-issued credit cards suspended for breaking the rules on expenses.

Most of the papers feature a nod on their front page to what the Daily Mirror dubs “The miracle of Anfield”, last night’s Champions League semi-final where Liverpool upset the odds in dramatic fashion, beating Barcelona 4-0 to reach the final. CityAM has perhaps the most dramatic of the splashes with a warning that there may be trouble ahead for the EU and the eurozone in particular.
Fear not, those who haven’t had enough royal baby news, as the Daily Mail asks: “WILL BABY SUSSEX GET AMERICAN PASSPORT?”
