Heimlich manoeuvre inventor saves choking woman

Doctor Henry Heimlich has saved the life of a woman by using the anti-choking manoeuvre to which he gave his name. Heimlich, 96, used the technique to assist a fellow resident at a care home in Cincinnati, Ohio. The woman "had her lips puffed out and was unable to breathe" after choking on a piece of hamburger, he said. It's the second time Heimlich has used the manoeuvre he developed in the 1970s: in 2003, he intervened when a man started choking in a restaurant.

Vegans attacked by sausage-wielding group

Patrons of the vegan Kiwi Cafe in the Georgian capital of Tblisi have been attacked by at least 15 members of a far-right group, who burst in wielding sausages. Officials say they are unsure whether the attack was a prank that ended badly or a pre-meditated assault.
