Nice ice, baby: Graff Diamonds' new Snowfall watch
The high-jewellery house harnessed cutting-edge technology to create its dazzling new timepiece, inspired by winter's wonderland
In the typically traditional worlds of haute horology, modern methodology can often be treated with hesitation and seen as a threat to the high levels of craftsmanship on which the industry is built. However, a select few prestigious brands are leading the way in employing forward-thinking design and manufacturing techniques – and reaping the rewards in the shape of innovative and unprecedented new pieces.
This is something Graff knows well, having harnessed the precision of 3D printing to develop a new collection of watches and jewellery named Snowfall. The glimmering timepieces and earrings are inspired by the natural phenomenon after which they are named, recreating it in a delicate flurry of diamonds.
The complex bracelet on which the watches are set comprises 278 stones of varying sizes that magically appear to hover independently of each other and move with a remarkable fluidity. This is down to a new joint system developed by the house that was months in the making and relied on a highly technical and scientific approach and numerous prototypes.
