Reptile style: Harrods' sleek Bulgari pop-up
The Italian jewellery and leather-goods designer is celebrating its iconic Serpenti pieces with new designs at the department store
Bulgari's Serpenti is one of jewellery's most enduring designs. With its roots in Roman and Greek mythology, the serpent symbol has, over the decades, been transformed by the fashion house into eye-catching jewellery and watches. Elizabeth Taylor immortalised its place in style history when one was seen snaking up her arm on set when filming Cleopatra in 1962.
Harrods is celebrating the distinctive motif in all its forms with a dedicated pop-up that runs until 1 June. It will showcase the latest jewellery collection – an alluring assortment of bejewelled pendants, rings, bracelets and earrings, from pink gold pieces with diamonds, rubellite and amethyst to white gold iterations featuring brilliant green emeralds as the snake's eyes.
It will also explore how the brand has applied the design to its bag collections. As well as displaying its latest pieces featuring a "pixel python" finish, in which each scale is hand-painted to complement the natural python skin, there will also be a new line of Serpenti Forever handbags, exclusive to the department store. Available in three sizes, retailing at £1,520, £1,600 and £1,980, the chic bag is made from quilted white calf leather, with a white agate serpent-shaped clasp keeping guard over its precious contents.
