Pour Homme: Stella McCartney's debut menswear line

Many men will have appreciated Stella McCartney's elegant take on laidback luxury from afar, but this season they will be able to incorporate the look into their own wardrobes as the brand's first departure from womenswear hits the stores. The debut outing for men blends vintage influences with the designer's signature sportswear-influenced style, and sees classic formalwear paired with socks and sliders and toned-down colours interspersed with bold, eccentric prints. Here, we take a look at some of the collection's most covetable pieces for this summer.

Red Members Print Jumper, £765

With her menswear collection, McCartney has welcomed everyone into her world – a sentiment expressed through the playful 'Members and Non-Members Only' motif that adorns key pieces and accessories. Much like the fun and carefree woman she has portrayed on the runway since her first collection debut in October 2001, the Stella man doesn’t take himself, or his lifestyle, too seriously. This vibrant tomato-red knit with black text subtly references the punk era, elevated by the DIY-style cut and placement of the motif. With a crew neckline, dropped shoulders and a slightly-too-large feel, this piece is light enough to wear on the inevitable not-so-sunny days.

Ink Embroidered Cotton Shirt, £485

The inspiration for this piece was taken from an old photograph McCartney found of her father Paul from the early Beatles era. The classic deep-ink-blue tone is brought up-to-date with the addition of on-trend swallow embroidery ­– a motif that has been used by designers from Miu Miu to Valentino – and is perhaps a nod to McCartney's commitment to cruelty-free, animal-friendly fashion. The pointed collar tips add an injection of formality to more casual outfits.

Green Technical Cotton Jacket, £735

McCartney's British heritage and early experiences as a young tailor on Savile Row come through in the elegant silhouettes and emphasis on interesting proportions in the collection. The mid-body cut of this boxy worker jacket makes for a versatile piece, with the bold green and pointed collar playing up to the 1970s influence. A staple item, it can be used to inject colour into more pared-back outfits, or follow the designer's cue and team with statement prints and bright accessories.
