The restomod: Singer and Williams dream-up their own 911
Lightweight parts and a 500bhp engine refresh this 30-year-old Porsche
Porsche enthusiasts are often among the most passionate petrolheads in the motoring community. Some fans seek out the rarest examples to come from the German carmaker, while others customise their own cars for a unique look.
One thing they all share in common, though, is a love for the iconic sports car, the 911.
California-based restoration company Singer dedicates itself to customising old 911s for some of the wealthiest fans, one of whom has commissioned a one-off example based on the 30-year-old Porsche 964.

Porsche enthusiast Scott Blattner said the idea behind the project was to push the limits of what is possible with his old 964.
He said: “What if Singer worked on restoring and modifying my beloved 27-year old Porsche 964, with the assistance of an engineering concern born from the world of F1. How would such a car look and how would it perform?”
To make Blattner’s request a reality, Singer paired up with the Williams F1 Team to turn the old 964-generation 911 into a high-tech supercar.
The partnership has since drawn up a host of styles, says Jalopnik, including one (pictured above) featuring a 493bhp air-cooled flat-six engine and carbon fibre highlights.
The concept boasts wider wheel arches than the original, along with a redesigned lightweight floor and a large carbon fibre diffuser at the rear. It also swaps out most of the original parts with magnesium and titanium alternatives, slashing the car’s weight to just 990kg.
Along with the raft of chassis improvements, the 964 concept gets grippy Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres and lightweight racing wheels inspired by the Porsche 911s of the 1960s and 70s.
As a final touch, it sports metallic green paint with lighter green stripes and orange Porsche stickers down the side.
While the project was kickstarted by Blattner, Singer and Williams plan to convert 75 other 964-generation 911s “with the same or similar upgrades”, Evo says.
As is the case with the majority of specially commissioned vehicles, the price of Blattner’s tuned 964 has not been disclosed.
