Ferrari has revealed a one-off version of its 488 GTB supercar that has been made for one of the Italian marque’s “most dedicated customers”.
The bespoke supercar, called the SP38, is based on the 488 GTB but features an all-new design that appears to draw inspiration from some of the carmaker’s other classic models.
Autocar says the SP38’s rear-wing looks similar to that of the track-focused F40 supercar from the mid-1980s, while the front end is a nod to the Ferrari 308 GTB.

Other changes include thinner headlights, altered aerodynamics and sculpted doors, the magazine says. The rear is “all but unrecognisable” as a reworking of the 488 GTB, instead featuring four round tail lights derived from the Ferrari 812 Superfast, and significantly larger vents.
The radical new look is topped off with special three-layer metallic red paint, which appears slightly darker than the company’s traditional colour.
Under the slatted boot lid - another nod to Ferraris of old - sits the same 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine as the 488 GTB, which produces 661bhp and achieves 0-62mph in just three seconds, says Evo.
Ferarri says the cabin has been “tailor-made” , but has yet to divulge further details, says Auto Express.
The company is also keeping quiet about the car’s price, and there doesn’t appear to be any plans to bring the car into production.
Motoring fans will still have a chance to see the SP38 in the metal though. Motor1 says the bespoke supercar will be on display at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este motor show, on the shores of Lake Como, this weekend.
