Porsche Classic Project Gold: 911 ‘restomod’ to debut this month
One-off sports car has 993 Turbo vibes
Porsche is gearing up to unveil a bespoke concept that appears to be inspired by a 23-year-old version of its 911 sports car.
The one-off sports car is being built by the German marque’s Classic division, which manages the firm’s historic vehicles, and may take the form of a 993-generation 911 Turbo.
Little else is known about the unique model but Porsche has released a trio of teaser videos.

Autocar claims the vehicle will be a restomod project - where the car takes its looks from a historic model but is underpinned by modern mechanicals - and will sport a black and gold colour scheme.
Although Porsche has yet confirm that Project Gold will adopt the 993 Turbo’s styling, Evo says the preview trailers show the company’s engineers working on 17in alloy wheels and a Turbo badge like those on the classic sports car, made from 1995 until 1997.
The preview videos also offer a sneak peak at the car’s interior trim. The cabin features a pair of bucket seats covered in black leather, with gold stitching forming “two subtle stripes down the seat back and base”, the magazine says.
Although there’s no word on whether Porsche will produce additional retro-inspired models in the future, Project Gold may be the start of something new for the carmaker.
Restoring and upgrading historic cars has become popular in recent years, with California-based Porsche enthusiasts Singer building luxurious versions of classic 911s that sell for up to seven-figure sums.
Following Singer’s “small scale” yet notable success, Car magazine suggests, Porsche may want to tap into the market by building its own restomodded 911s.
All will be revealed when the car is revealed online on 24 August, before making its public debut at the Rennsport Reunion in California on 27 September.
