Deadline day: Man Utd ditch Zaha, Arsenal 'agree Schneiderlin deal'
Plenty of action expected on final day of the transfer window, as big clubs all eye last-minute deals
It's manic Monday again, with just a few hours to go until the transfer window slams shut and Arsene Wenger realises he's forgotten to sign a defensive midfielder. Again. But elsewhere what are the deals going down – or so the papers would have us believe:
Manchester United
• Everton are hoping to secure a loan deal for Man United starlet Adnan Januzaj, who has been frozen out at Old Trafford this season, reports the Manchester Evening News. The teenager played against Leicester at the weekend, but it was only his fifth Premier League start this season. "He faces a battle for regular first team football with Angel di Maria and Juan Mata ahead of him in the pecking order at United," says the paper. "With Van Gaal set to spend heavily again in the summer - with Gareth Bale among his targets - Januzaj's opportunities may be further limited." Everton on the other hand are desperate for new blood. However, Sky Sports has rubbished the reports, insisting that Januzaj will not be allowed to leave Old Trafford.

• One player who does appear to be surplus to requirements at Man United is Wilfried Zaha, and he could be about to have his loan deal at Crystal Palace made permanent. The Guardian says United are willing to sell Alex Ferguson's final signing for the club but adds that "United are intent on recouping a sizeable chunk of their £15m outlay, with a deal representing an initial £7m plus further add-ons perhaps of interest". Local paper the Croydon Advertiser says that the deal has been done and that Zaha has been undergoing as "precautionary medical".
• According to The Sun Manchester United will attempt today "to push through a £35m deal" for Brazilian defender Marquinhos. The 20-year-old was first linked to Old Trafford a fortnight ago and the Sun says United are hopeful Paris Saint-Germain will agree terms today. initially PSG quoted United "an astonishing £112m fee" for the centre-half, despite the fact he only arrived in Paris 18 months ago in a £26m deal from Roma. Yet it's believed PSG boss Laurent Blanc has come round to the idea of slashing the price in order to allow Marquinhos to leave now. Having slipped behind David Luiz and Thiago Silva in the pecking order in Paris, the young defender is allegedly looking for more regular game time.
Arsenal
• Arsenal have reportedly agreed terms with Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin but the Frenchman won't be joining the Gunners until the summer. The Daily Star claims that the 25-year-old has snubbed Liverpool and Manchester United to join Arsenal from Southampton. Taking French newspaper L'Equipe as its source, the Star says Schneiderlin has a "personal agreement" with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
Spurs
• Spurs hero Harry Kane has signed a new five-year deal with the Lilywhites, ensuring that the young forward doesn't get sucked into any deadline day dramas. The 21-year-old academy graduate "only signed a new deal in August, but his impressive performances have earned him an improved contract until 2020", reports the BBC. It adds that he is also likely to get an England call up next month.
• Spurs are also said to be "working overtime" on a deal to offload Emmanuel Adebayor as well as Lennon before the window closes. "Both players have been offered to a number of Premier League clubs," reports the London Evening Standard. "Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace are keen on Adebayor but the forward’s £100,000-a-week wages remain a huge stumbling block."
• The Sun claims that Spurs are going to go on a £60m "mega-spree" by signing Jay Rodriguez from Southampton. And as well as the England striker, Tottenham are also lining up summer moves for the French pair of Yohan Cabaye (currently with Paris Saint-Germain) and Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte. But it's the 25-year-old Rodriguez who looks like becoming a Lilywhite in the next few hours with the Sun reporting that Saints would rather sell him now for £15m than see him leave on a free transfer in the summer.
Liverpool
• The Daily Express reports that Arsenal and Liverpool are "set to snub Real Madrid" by refusing to pay £25m in return for defender Fabio Coentrao. Described by the Express as an "unwanted full-back" Coentrao is being touted around the top European clubs by Real who are "determined to shed" him from their squad. The 26-year-old Portuguese was last season linked with Manchester United but they plumped instead for Luke Shaw and now the Express says Real are struggling to find buyers at their current asking price. In fact Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is expecting a quiet day today, telling reporters after Sunday's 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa, "I don't think I will be busy".
• According to the International Business Times Liverpool are planning a deadline day swoop for West ham United defender Winston Reid, who has also been linked with Arsenal. The IBT says Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to strengthen his defence and will "try and tempt the Hammers" with an offer for the New Zealand international. It's believed £6.5m would be enough to grease West Ham's palm for a player who has just six months to run on his existing contract.
Man City
• Another player who could be on the move today is Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko. The Daily Mail reports that Turkish outfit Fenerbahce are considering making a £12m move for the Bosnian striker who has scored just four times this season for the Sky Blues. With City having signed Wilfried Bony from Swansea this window, selling Dzeko would seem to make sense for the reigning champs, although some sources claims City boss Manuel Pellegrini is unlikely to sanction the deal at such a late stage.
Other news
• One deal done before deadline day concerns Crystal Palace's capture of Pape Souare from Lille on a three and a half year deal. The official Eagles' website says the deal (for an undisclosed fee) is subject to a work permit being received but it's expected that should be a formality. The 24-year-old old Souare has won five caps for Senegal and appeared in last month's Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
