Show of the week: Royal Pains
This new series—a clever crossbreed of medical drama and comedy of manners—is about a young, blacklisted physician and the wealthy living in Long Island's posh Hamptons.
A clever crossbreed of medical drama and comedy of manners, this new series follows a young physician who is unjustly blacklisted from plying his trade, then more or less shanghaied into becoming a doctor-on-demand for the rich and shallow in Long Island, N.Y.’s posh Hamptons. The interesting premise is not as unlikely as it may sound—recent years have seen the rise of “concierge doctors,” whose small, wealthy practices often refuse insurance. Mark Feuerstein is appealing in the lead role, and this promising pilot gains strength from authentic Hamptons locations and guest-star turns by Christine Ebersole and Campbell Scott. Thursday, June 4, at 10 p.m., USA
