GOOD DAY FOR: Driving sales, as Toyota is opening a shopping mall in Yokohama this week that showcases its cars, in the hopes of reversing declining domestic sales, especially among Japan’s youth. Young Japanese would rather spend money on cellphones and laptops, Toyota said, and a 2007 study found that some Japanese young adults wouldn’t take a car even if it was free. (AP in Yahoo! Finance)
BAD DAY FOR: Forced decency, after Fox Broadcasting said it won’t pay a $91,000 FCC fine for showing digitally and whipped-cream-obscured nudity on the 2004 reality show Married in America. The fine had been reduced from $1.2 million. Fox called any fine in the situation “arbitrary and capricious, inconsistent with precedent, and patently unconstitutional.” (The Washington Post, free registration)
