Nazi airlift

The Dutch airline KLM transported Nazis fleeing to Argentina at the end of World War II, a Dutch television documentary claimed last week. The report cited documents showing that the airline actively helped suspected war criminals leave Germany. KLM, now part of Air France, did not rule out that possibility, although it said it never found any such documents in its own archive. The company said it would ask for an independent investigation. “If we are a responsible company, we should also be responsible for what has been done in the past,” said KLM spokesman Bart Koster. Among the Nazis who found haven in Argentina were Adolf Eichmann, who planned the extermination of the Jews, and Josef Mengele, the doctor who experimented on Auschwitz inmates.
