Talking peace despite bombs

The week's news at a glance.

Delhi

India and Pakistan resumed peace talks this week, just days after terrorists killed 68 people on an Indian train bound for Pakistan. The two suspects left suitcase bombs in two cars and leapt from the train, telling conductors they had boarded the wrong one. No group claimed responsibility, but Indian police suspected Islamic militant groups based in Pakistan. The last such bombing, an attack on a commuter train in Mumbai that killed 209 last year, caused the breakdown of peace negotiations. This time, though, both sides said they would not allow terrorists to disrupt the peace process. India and Pakistan have been discussing the status of the disputed province of Kashmir for decades.
