Shark attack
The week's news at a glance.
Cape Town, South Africa
An 18-foot great white shark killed and apparently ate an elderly woman swimming just off of a Cape Town beach this week. At least 15 people saw Tyna Webb, 77, get attacked by the massive shark. “All that was left was a little red bathing cap,” said witness Paul Dennett. It was the second shark attack of the year on that beach; a teenage surfer survived the first but lost a leg. Still, the Cape of Good Hope is not the world leader in unprovoked shark attacks. Since 1990, Florida beaches have seen more than 300 attacks, five times as many as South Africa.
