Torture photos faked

The British tabloid the Daily Mirror admitted this week that its exclusive photographs purporting to show British soldiers abusing Iraqis were fakes. “Sorry…We Were Hoaxed,” the paper said in a front-page mea culpa. The photos, which seemed to show British soldiers beating and urinating on hooded men, had come under intense attack by British military officials. One officer pointed out that a truck in the background of several shots was a model never deployed in Iraq. Mirror editor Piers Morgan was fired, but will reportedly still receive the $1.75 million remaining on his contract.
