1. London’s St Patrick’s Day parade and festival

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has unveiled the plans for St Patrick’s Day in the capital, which will showcase the very best of Irish arts, performance, culture, food and dance. There will be a programme of events across the city, including the return of the iconic parade on Sunday 13 March. Featuring Irish marching bands, dancers and pageantry, the parade starts at 12pm from Hyde Park Corner, then travels through Piccadilly, St James’s Street, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street and Whitehall.

Also on Sunday, from 12pm-6pm, Trafalgar Square will play host to a line up of Irish talent with family-friendly concerts, storytelling, children’s films and youth performances, as well community choirs, schools, dance troupes and more. The main stage, which is curated by the London Irish Centre, will see headliners Damien Dempsey and Altan perform alongside acts such as Xnthony and the Girlband, Séamus & Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta, Olivia Armstrong, Xona and more.

The Swift cocktail bars in Soho and Shoreditch will be celebrating from 14-19 March with a menu built around Jameson Black Barrel and Guinness on tap all week. On St Patrick’s Day itself, Swift Soho will mark the date with live traditional Irish music from Alan Dunn and Jerry Bloom (7pm-9pm). Swift Shoreditch will have a limited edition, for-one-day-only Jameson Black Barrel and Guinness Tiramisu that is sure to sell out.

Teeling Irish Whiskey will host a week-long takeover of iconic London whisky bar Milroys of Spitalfields. From 14-20 March, Teeling will offer up a range of delicious cocktails in the downstairs basement and on the day itself Teeling will also take over the ground floor with Irish food and music on the menu. Guests who buy any bottle of Teeling Whiskey or a Tasting Flight on the night can get a free embroidered Teeling Whisky flat cap, which are available on a first-come first-served basis.

The Wigmore British pub at The Langham hotel is launching a new cocktail menu on 15 March. Created by the pub’s newly-appointed head bartender Marco Fante, the menu includes “The Irishman” cocktail which features Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition Irish whiskey, Aperol, salted caramel, Martini Rubino and Guinness. Huge Irish Wexford tomahawk steaks will be on the Heliot Steak House menu at The Hippodrome Casino. The 900g-1,200g steak for two will be served with Bushmills Irish Whiskey cocktails, an array of sides and a choice of sauces including peppercorn, red wine and béarnaise. The set menu is priced at £50 per person, and includes the Irish Wexford Tomahawk, two cocktails and a choice of two sides and sauces, available on 17 March only.

Bethnal Green cocktail bar Coupette will be putting on an Irish party in collaboration with The Busker Irish Whiskey from 8.30pm on 17 March. There will be live music and a special menu of The Busker cocktails (£7) created by the Coupette team. Cocktails include the Pink Irishman (pictured), High Yellow, Little Green Bubble, and The Big Red. Available via Eventbrite, tickets cost £10 and includes two cocktails.

The Sun Tavern in Bethnal Green, which is home to London’s largest selection of Irish whiskey, will team up with Slane Irish Whiskey to serve up limited-edition cocktails on 17 March. Celebrating its Irish roots, the venue will have three exclusive cocktails on the menu: the Hardy Buck (Slane Irish Whiskey, raspberry, eucalyptus bitters, citrus, Umbrella London Ginger Beer), the Dirty Old Town (Slane Irish Whiskey, chestnut, madeira, suze), and the Beer and a Bump (Umbrella London Ginger Beer and a shot of Slane Irish Whiskey). The fun begins in the afternoon with a Cèilidh band, followed by Broadway Markets’ Oyster Boy kicking off the evening by dishing out free oysters. Two guest DJs will then keep the party going.

Truman’s Social Club in Walthamstow will be pouring some of the finest Irish beers on St Patrick’s Day. The selection includes Porterhouse from Dublin, Boundary from Belfast and Beer Hut from Kilkeel in Northern Ireland. Whiskies and Baby Guinness shots will also be served. Visitors can enjoy traditional Irish music and the flavoursome Irish staple, Coddle, a dish curated from layers of chunky potato and sausage in a rich gravy. Entry is free but bookings are advised.

Records Bars’s live music and cocktail venues have curated an eclectic mix of Irish cocktails in collaboration with Slane Irish Whiskey. Featuring the Pot of Gold (Slane, peach, lemon), Slane My Name (Slane, cherry, lemon, egg white), and The Irish Godfather (Slane, amaretto), the special menu will be available at Venn St Records, Old St Records, Eastcheap Records and Northcote Records for £9 each or 2-4-1 during happy hour. To add to its cocktail selection, Records Bars have included a classic Baby Guinness shooter comprising a delicious combination of coffee liqueur and Irish cream made to look like the famous Irish stout, available for £7 across all locations.

Late-night drinking den Louche Soho will be serving a limited-edition Irish Espresso Martini complete with entertainment from a live electric band on 17 March. The Irish Espresso Martini – which is made from Slane Irish Whiskey, coffee liqueur and espresso – will be on offer for £10 or 2-4-1 during happy hour from 5pm to 8pm. The standout cocktail can be enjoyed alongside Thursday night’s band, The Marquees, who will play vintage throwbacks under dazzling emerald lights.

Set over three floors and full with games, activities and experiences, Gravity Wandsworth is the perfect hangout for St Patrick’s Day. To mark the day, the venue will be painting the town green and serving eye-catching green pints for £4.95. Guests can also order Baby Guinness shots, £4 each or three for £10, and play a green-themed game of AR bowling or Urban Golf. Choose from a host of activities including Electric Gamebox, a hyper-immersive 60-minute gaming adventure; Gravity GT, a multi-level electric go-karting racetrack; Urban Street Golf and AR Shuffleboard.

If Irish coffee is your chosen drink then head to Henson’s Bar at Mimi’s Hotel in Soho. Bar manager Francesco Delfino uses two types of Irish whiskey to bring extra complexity to the tipple – The Legendary Silkie, offering chocolate honey notes, and Tullamore D.E.W.
