Today’s back pages: British and Irish FAs set for 2030 Fifa World Cup bid
A round up of the sport headlines from UK newspapers on 2 December
2030 World Cup bid
The Times reports on its back page that the British and Irish football associations (FA) are set to go ahead with a joint bid to host the Fifa World Cup in 2030.
England’s FA has been leading a feasibility study and according to the Times the associations believe they have a “significant chance of success”.
Noel Mooney, the general manager of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), said: “The feasibility study is positive and there’s a sense that the right thing to do is go forward.”

The Times adds that the plans will be ramped up in preparation of a likely launch in early 2022 if government support is confirmed.

Silva’s VAR bullet
The future of Everton manager Marco Silva is a major focus of the back pages.
Everton lost 2-1 to Leicester City yesterday after a controversial VAR goal, but the Daily Mail says Toffees boss Silva refused to blame the decision on a result that could cost him his job.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury-time winner was awarded by VAR and the marginal call leaves Silva on the brink, the Daily Express reports.
The Daily Telegraph, with its headline “going, gone”, reports that Silva is facing the axe while Watford have fired their boss Quique Sánchez Flores after just 85 days in the job.
