1. MH370: NEW INFO SHIFTS SEARCH WEST

Malaysian officials say they are shifting their search for the Malaysia Airways jet which disappeared with 239 passengers on board almost a week ago west. One source said this was in response to “new information” that suggests it flew on after its last official contact. The US has sent surveillance teams to the Indian Ocean.

2. RUSSIA: 'NO COMMON VISION' ON UKRAINE

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has said there is "no common vision" with the US over the future of Ukraine after talks in London. He called the discussions with US secretary of state John Kerry "useful" but said his country would "respect the will of the people of Crimea" ahead of a referendum on leaving Ukraine to be held this weekend.

Ukraine rekindles Nato aspirations, angering Russia

3. FOUR DIE IN NORFOLK HELICOPTER CRASH

Four people died when a civilian helicopter crashed in Norfolk last night. Emergency services attended the scene in Gillingham, near Beccles, at 7.30pm. One local resident said it was “very foggy” at the time. The site is just 45 miles from Cley next the Sea, where four US servicemen were killed in a helicopter crash in January.

4. OFFICER ADMITS TO PISTORIUS ERRORS

The trial of Oscar Pistorius has been shown pictures of him covered in blood after he shot dead girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home in Pretoria last year. But former police officer Schoombie van Rensburg admitted to "extraordinary" errors in the investigation. Watches went missing from the crime scene and a forensics officer handled the weapon without gloves.

5. ZUCKERBERG CALLS OBAMA OVER SPYING

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has posted a message on his personal page of the social networking site saying he called Barack Obama to express his “frustration” over the NSA’s spying on US citizens’ online activities. He added it would take “a very long time for true full reform” of the system.

6. LORD WINDEMERE WINS GOLD CUP

Lord Windemere, a 20-1 outsider ridden by Davy Russell, was the shock winner of this year's Cheltenham Gold Cup, beating another unfancied horse, 16-1 shot On His Own, with The Giant Bolster, at 14-1, in third. Bobs Worth, the heavily backed favourite, was overwhelmed at the finish and ended up fifth. The finish was one of the closest in Gold Cup history.

7. LABOUR ICON TONY BENN DIES AT 88

Veteran Labour politician Tony Benn has died at the age of 88. The former cabinet minister, who renounced his peerage to remain an MP in the House of Commons, had been ill for some time. Benn spent 51 years as an MP and was also well known as an anti-war campaigner and political diarist. Labour leader Ed Miliband described him as an "iconic figure".

8. ETHERINGTON WINS FOURTH SKI MEDAL

Visually impaired skier Jade Etherington and her guide Caroline Powell have won a fourth medal at the Winter Paralympics in Sochi. Their silver in the super-combined skiing event, to go with two other silvers and a bronze, makes them the most successful British women in Winter Paralympic history. They will go for a fifth medal in Sunday's giant slalom.

9. VYBZ KARTEL FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER

Jamaican dancehall reggae artist Vybz Kartel has been found guilty of murder after the longest criminal trial in the country's history. Parts of Kingston were sealed off before the verdict was delivered. Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, and three other men were convicted of killing associate, Clive Lizard Williams, in a row over a missing gun.

10. HOT TICKET: SCI-FI FILM UNDER THE SKIN

British-American science-fiction thriller Under the Skin is released in UK cinemas today. Scarlett Johansson stars as an alien femme fatale, harvesting unsuspecting hitchhikers in Scotland for an intergalactic corporation, who begins to have doubts about her job. "Astonishing, " says the Daily Telegraph.
