1. Debris from missing EgyptAir plane discovered

Debris, bodies and passenger belongings from the missing Egyptair flight have been discovered in the Mediterranean, according to military search teams from Greece and Egypt. The discovery was reportedly made five miles south of where Flight MS804 vanished from radar. The search is now focused on finding the plane's flight recorders.

2. Celebrities rally to support Remain vote

More than 250 celebrities, including artists and writers, have signed a letter to The Guardian backing the Remain camp in the upcoming EU referendum, admitting they might be seen as 'Luvvies for Brussels'. Big names on the list include Benedict Cumberbatch, Paloma Faith, Danny Boyle, Richard Curtis, Jarvis Cocker and John Le Carre.

3. NHS England: Massive hospital overspend

The health service regulator NHS improvement is to announce today that hospitals and other NHS trusts in England have overspent to an unprecedented level. Figures for the last financial year show hospital, ambulance and mental health trusts were in the red to the tune of £2.2bn by December, three-quarters of the way through the year.

4. India endures 51C during hottest day on record

India endured its hottest day on record yesterday, sweltering in temperatures of 51C as a heatwave grips the north and east of the country. The record temperature was recorded in Phalodi in the desert state of Rajasthan. The previous mark of 50.6C was recorded in 1956. The heatwave has struck in the run-up to the monsoon season, but rains are not due until next month.

5. Nigeria: Second missing schoolgirl found

Another one of the more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist terror group Boko Haram two years ago has been found alive. Serah Luka is said by the Nigerian government to have been rescued yesterday morning, along with 96 other women and children, in an army operation in which 35 Boko Haram fighters were killed.

6. Four women stabbed in supermarket attack

Four women have been injured, one critically, in a knife attack outside a supermarket in west London. Police were called to sainsbury's in Hampton on Friday morning . One of the injured women was airlifted to hospital with "life-threatening" injurues. Witnesses said the attack was "unprovoked". A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.

7. Expats fail in referendum vote challenge

To British expats have lost a court battle to be granted a vote in the EU referendum. World War Two veteran Harry Shindler, who lives in Italy, and lawyer Jacquelyn MacLennan, who lives in Belgium, hoped to overturn a ruling by the High Court, which upheld a decision to bar British citizens who have lived in other EU countries for more than 15 years from voting on 23 June.

8. Five-two diet 'no better than cutting calories'

Research from Australia has found that the 5:2 diet - where people fast for two days a week - does work in the short term, but is no more efficient than eating fewer calories every day. The randomised study looked at 24 obese male war veterans aged 55 to 75 for six months. Those on reduced calories lost 5.5kg, those on 5:2 lost 5.3kg.

9. David Ginola has bypass surgery after heart attack

Former France, Newcastle and Spurs footballer David Ginola is recovering in hospital after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery following a heart attack on Thursday. The 49-year-old collapsed at a celebrity golf tournament in the south of France. Ginola reportedly received seven shocks with a defibrillator and was airlifted to hospital in Monaco, and is now believed to be awake.

10. The planes that vanished into thin air

The EgyptAir flight that went missing on Wednesday night has sparked renewed interest in Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared on 8 March 2014 and has gripped the public imagination ever since. Unanswered questions about the MH370 - such as why the communication system was disabled, why the aircraft executed a U-turn before it disappeared and why so little wreckage has been found - have deepened the mystery. But it wasn't the first time a plane has gone missing.
