1. Hillary Clinton on brink of nomination

A count of Democratic delegates who say they will support Hillary Clinton as their party's candidate for the White House suggests she has secured the nomination. The former US secretary of state yesterday told her supporters that she stood on the brink of a "historic, unprecedented moment". Her rival, Bernie Sanders, has rejected the claim.

2. Sports Direct founder admits minimum wage 'issues

Mike Ashley, the billionaire founder of Sports Direct, has admitted to MPs that workers at the company's Derbyshire warehouse were paid below the minimum wage and its policy of fining staff for being late was unacceptable. He said he had "hopefully addressed" some of the issues, but admitted HMRC was investigating the firm.

Sports Direct shares surge despite profit plunge

3. Trident missile system 'being upgraded in secret'

Independent research body the Nuclear Information Service claims that the Atomic Weapons Establishment, Britain's bomb-making service, is secretly updating the Trident deterrent to be more destructive and accurate. At the same time, says the group, work is under way to develop an entirely new warhead to replace the system.

4. Deadline to register for EU vote today

Midnight tonight is the last opportunity to register to vote in the EU referendum, which takes place on 23 June. Registering online should take about five minutes, says the BBC. Voters will need their National Insurance number, or passport number if living overseas. Forms to register for postal voting must be returned by 5pm tomorrow.

5. Tony Blair prepares to defend invasion of Iraq

Tony Blair is working on his response to the upcoming Chilcot report into the invasion of Iraq, due to be released on 6 July, and will ask people to think through the consequences of leaving Saddam Hussein in power with the capability of developing nuclear weapons. He will say problems since the war were caused by Iran and al-Qaeda.

6. Man held over Euro 2016 'terror plot'

The head of Ukraine's state security service says a Frenchman is being detained after being arrested in late May trying to leave the country with a van full of weapons and explosives bought from illegal armed groups. Vasily Gritsak says the man held far-right views and was planning terror attacks during the Euro 2016 football tournament.

7. Silvio Berlusconi admitted to hospital

Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has been admitted to hospital in Milan with a heart problem. The 80-year-old has suffered a "cardiac deficiency" said San Raffaele hospital. His condition is not life threatening but he is expected to remain in hospital for observation and will undergo tests to determine his treatment.

8. Noel Edmonds under fire over cancer claim

Noel Edmonds has come under fire after suggesting a man on Twitter had cancer because of his "negative attitude". The Deal Or No Deal presenter initially took to the social media site in order to praise a device that he claims "slows ageing" and "tackles cancer". When someone questioned his claim he said it was "scientific fact" that disease is caused by negative energy.

9. Will Smith to carry Muhammad Ali's coffin

Actor Will Smith, who played Muhammad Ali in a 2001 biopic, is to be one of the eight pallbearers at the boxing legend's funeral in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday, alongside British former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. The other six pallbearers will be relatives of Ali, who died on Friday aged 74.

10. Briefing: Brexit polls push pound volatility to post-crisis high

More EU referendum polls are showing the pro-Brexit camp has nudged into the lead ahead of the 23 June vote, causing a major spike in volatility for the pound. A new poll by Opinium for The Observer put Leave ahead on 43 to 40 per cent, while a YouGov poll for ITV will show it having a lead of four points on 45 to 41 per cent. A poll of the most recent six polls has shown Remain's long-term lead narrowing markedly to just two points, on 51 to 49 per cent.
