1. Donald Trump sworn in as US President
Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 45th president of the USA. In his inaugural address Trump declared: "We are transferring power from Washington DC and giving it back to you, the people". He told the crowd in Washington: "A nation exists to serve it's citizen" and promised that his administration would "follow two simple rules, buy American and hire American".

3. Senegalese troops enter Gambia as stand-off continues
Troops from Senegal have crossed the border into The Gambia after outgoing president Yahya Jammeh refused to hand over power to his elected successor Adama Barrow. Barrow yesterday swore an oath of office in Dakar, Senegal, where he is staying for safety reasons. Nigeria says it is also deploying troops.
4. Soros: Trump is a 'con-man' and May won't last
Billionaire investor George Soros called Donald Trump an "impostor and con-man", a "would-be dictator" who is "going to fail" while speaking at the Davos financial meeting. He also predicted Theresa May would not remain in power for long and that the UK would immediately rejoin the EU after Brexit.
5. Protests and violence as Trump sworn in
Police in Washington have used water cannon and tear gas on protesters in Washington amid violence and reports of looting ahead of the inauguration of President Donald Trump. There have been demonstrations elsewhere in the US and around the world, with activists hanging a banner reading "Build bridges not walls" from Tower Bridge in London.
6. World War II bomb removed from Thames
Parts of central London, including Waterloo Bridge, Westminster Bridge and Victoria Embankment, were sealed off last night after a World War II bomb was discovered in the Thames. The discovery threatened to derail actor Woody Harrelson's plans to broadcast a live film from the area, but Lost in London appeared without major hitches.

7. Mexico's 'El Chapo' drug lord extradited to the US
Drug baron Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman has been extradited from Mexico to the US to face charges of trafficking and smuggling vast quantities of narcotics into the country. He has previously broken out of two high-security Mexican jails, but is expected to spend he rest of his life in behind bars in the US.
8. Labour confusion over Article 50 vote
Jeremy Corbyn has come under fire for sending out mixed messages about how Labour should vote if the government loses its Supreme Court challenge and is forced to turn to parliamentary to leave the EU. He appeared to suggest in an interview that MPs would be asked to back a vote triggering Article 50, until now it was thought many MPs would abstain.

9. David Beckham marks Desert Island Disc's 75th birthday
Former England football captain David Beckham will be castaway for the 75th birthday episode of Radio 4's Desert Island Discs this weekend. The 41-year-old said music was a "huge part" of his life. It is not known if the eight tracks he has chosen include songs by his ex-Spice Girl wife Victoria.
10. Briefing: Who is boycotting Donald Trump's big day?
Final reparations for the inauguration of the 45th president of the
United States are under way in Washington DC, but it seems that the
ceremony will not have the pomp of previous inaugurations. "He's known
for being over the top – but Donald Trump’s inauguration is shaping up
to be downright understated," says the New York Daily News.
