Manchester City have broken their transfer record after completing the signing of French defender Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for £57million.
The 23-year-old, who has signed a deal until 2023 at the Premier League leaders, told the City website: “I am very happy to be here. City are a club with a lot of ambition and they are one of the best teams in Europe.
“I am looking forward to working under Pep Guardiola and trying to help the Club to achieve success. It means a lot that the club have shown faith in me and I am excited to get started.”

Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge has joined West Brom on loan for the rest of the season. The 28-year-old is hoping to force his way into England’s World Cup squad this summer.
Sturridge, who has scored 74 Premier League goals for Liverpool, was also a target for Newcastle, Inter Milan and Sevilla during the January transfer window. He believes West Brom are the “right fit” at this stage of his career.
He told Liverpool’s website: “I’ve got friends here I’ve played with before, the manager spoke very well, the challenge with the team and the style of play… I just felt this was the right fit for me.”
Watford have also bolstered their attacking ranks with Gerard Deulofeu joining on loan from Barcelona. The former Everton winger has signed for the Hornets until 30 June.
There’s no doubt that the biggest transfer of the January window is the one that saw Alexis Sanchez join Manchester United and Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to London for Arsenal.
After months of speculation, Sanchez finally confirmed his arrival at Old Trafford after signing a contract worth a reported £500,000 a week, while Mkhitaryan leaves United after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho.
Last week Southampton broke their transfer record after signing Monaco striker Guido Carrillo for £19m. And Newcastle United have also strengthened their squad with Kenedy signing on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.
