Tory 'strong and stable' advert topples on to motorway

A Tory billboard promoting the party's "strong and stable" message ended up blocking the M6 after the van carrying it fell over in high winds while driving along the M6 between Lymm and Woolston in Cheshire yesterday.

Although no one was injured, drivers suffered long delays as northbound lanes were closed to allow emergency services to clear the vehicle.

Predictably, the irony was not lost on Twitter.

Some users even suspected divine intervention was at play.

Labour candidate Faisal Rashid, who is standing in Warrington South, couldn't resist making some political capital out of the incident.

"Clearly, it is neither strong nor stable and is a symbol of Theresa May and the Tories' weak and wobbly campaign," he told the Warrington Guardian.

Warming to his theme, he added: "The Tories have chosen a shambolic way to get across an unreliable and flimsy message."
