Dodge unveils monstrous 829bhp Challenge SRT Demon
Single-seater muscle car has a faster 0-60mph time than the all-electric Tesla Model S
Dodge has added another hardcore muscle car to its line-up with the stripped-out Challenger SRT Demon.
Revealed at the New York Motor Show, the SRT Demon houses a 6.2-litre Hemi V8 engine that produces a monstrous 829bhp and 770lb-ft of torque. It's the most powerful production muscle-car of all time, says Dodge, and can pull a record-breaking a 2.92ft wheelies.
The Hemi V8 is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox from the mid-range Challenger Hellcat, launching the SRT Demon from zero to 60mph in just 2.3secs - around 0.2secs faster than a Tesla Model S P100D.

As the SRT Demon has been designed for drag racing, the hardcore Challenger "uses Bilstein adaptive suspension tuned specifically to maximize weight transfer to the rear wheels to improve traction without sacrificing lateral stability", says Evo.
The modifications lead to some impressive performance statistics, adds the magazine. The muscle car can cover a quarter-mile drag in 9.65secs at 140mph, with a zero to 30mph time of just one second.
"An intensive weight reduction programme has been necessary to attain those headline figures", says AutoExpress, with Dodge shaving 201lbs from the Challenger's overall mass.
The 16-speaker audio system, carpets and trim have all been omitted to lower the SRT Demon's weight and "only the driver's seat remains".
Dodge will produce 3,300 examples of the Challenger SRT Demon, says Autocar, all of which are reserved for North American markets. Those looking to import one into the UK should expect to pay significantly more than the £52,000 needed for the Challenger Hellcat, it adds.
