Spurs land Gedson Fernandes

Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes has joined Spurs on an 18-month loan deal.

Jose Mourninho secured the services of the 21-year-old after he fell out with Benfica coach Bruno Lage. The loan deal includes an option to buy the Portuguese international for £56m.

“His key attribute is running with the ball, frequently being fouled and winning free-kicks - but he also provides midfield mettle with an above-average number of duels won and forward-thinking distribution,” says Sky Sports.

Inter bid for Eriksen rejected

Inter Milan have failed in the first bid to sign Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Italian side offered £10.5m for the Dane, who is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer.

“The Italians have been told they will have to double their bid to at least £20m in order to prise the Dane away this month, with Spurs confirming talks between the sides are underway,” reports the Daily Mail.

More talks are expected this week and Inter have “discussed the possibility of throwing players into the deal aware that Tottenham have an injury crisis”.

City block Stones Arsenal move

Manchester City have “ruled out” the possibility of defender John Stones joining Arsenal this month, but the move could still happen in the summer.

The 25-year-old is on the fringes at the Etihad and is reportedly concerned about his place in the England squad for Euro 2020.

“Stones has the same agent as new Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, and the two men struck up a good relationship during the Spanish coach’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City,” reports the Manchester Evening News. “But City, who have no plans to sign a new centre back in this window, will not countenance any move away for Stones.”

However, that could change this summer if Guardiola is able to bring in a replacement.

Gunners want Maddison

Another target for Arsenal is Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, but that move too could be delayed until the summer, reports Goal.com.

“Maddison, 23, is currently under contract until 2023 with the Foxes and is said to be locked in talks over a new deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side,” says the website.

“With Arsenal now joining both Manchester club in being credited with an interest in the England international, however, a move to a historically bigger club may be appealing.”

Lingard set to leave Man Utd

Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes could lead to an Old Trafford exit for Jesse Lingard, says ESPN.

“Lingard's contract at United expires at the end of next season, which means his value is decreasing, while he’s also struggling for playing time,” says the website. “Fernandes’ arrival wouldn't help the situation and United are reportedly open to considering bids now.

“Lingard looks set to depart for Serie A, with Napoli, Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan all interesting in him.”
