Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Harry Kane should leave Tottenham for a ‘big club’

If Harry Kane wants to win silverware and prove himself as one of the world’s best strikers then he should leave Tottenham Hotspur for a bigger club.

That’s the verdict of former Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic when asked about the England captain’s future. The Sun reported this week that Real Madrid are planning a move for 25-year-old Kane while Barcelona could also be interested.

LA Galaxy striker Ibrahimovic - who has also played for Juventus, Barcelona, both Milan clubs and Paris Saint-Germain in his glittering career - had some words of advice for the 2018 Fifa World Cup golden boot winner.

Quoted by the Metro, the 37-year-old Swede told Bethard: “When I was in England, I saw him play. I think he’s a good striker, he’s still developing.

“He’s doing good things but I always say playing at a big club, performing good, it’s different from playing in - with all due respect for Tottenham - a normal club and performing there.

“It’s different situations, because I saw players do the same thing but when they come to a big club something is different. But I think he could make it. He just needs to make the move. People remember you for what you win and in the end he needs to win.

“So if he wants to win [big trophies], yes, I think he needs to change. I think Tottenham have a great team, but they’re not at the level to win everything even if they have a fantastic coach.”

Cole: Kane and Alli could force exit

After their 2-1 defeat in the “must-win” game at Burnley at the weekend Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that it could take the north London club “five or ten years” to win the Premier League.

Last night’s 2-0 loss at Chelsea further dented Tottenham’s title hopes and the Daily Express reports that former England midfielder Joe Cole could not understand why Pochettino made the comments.

Cole believes the remarks could have a big impact on the futures of Spurs stars such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Speaking on BT Sport, Cole said: “In my opinion, if I’m Harry Kane and Dele Alli and my manager was saying we’re five or ten years away from winning a trophy, I’m on the phone to the agent.”

Kane will not miss derby

There had been reports that Harry Kane could miss the north London derby against Arsenal on Saturday for appearing to headbutt Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta during the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.

The incident was missed by the match officials but no retrospective action will be taken against Kane, says Sky Sports, and he will be free to face Arsenal at Wembley.
