Sky Sports reports that Fleetwood and Molinari have made Ryder Cup history by becoming the first European pair to win four successive matches.
Saturday morning fourballs
Leading 5-3 after a memorable comeback on day one, European skipper Thomas Bjorn had urged his players to keep focused on the challenge ahead with the Americans eager to hit back on Saturday morning.
However, the momentum was with Bjorn’s side as Europe won three of the four fourball matches to extend their lead to 8-4 going into the foursomes.
In match one on Saturday morning European duo Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia beat the USA’s Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau 2&1. Then Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton extended the lead with a 3&2 victory over Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler.
After their two wins on Friday, Europe’s dynamic partnership of Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood continued their 100% record with a superb 4&3 win over Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed.
The Americans ended the Saturday morning session with a vital point when Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth beat Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm 2&1.
Saturday afternoon foursomes
It was honours even in the four afternoon matches as both teams added two points. Leading 8-4 ahead of the foursomes, Europe’s two points came when Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson beat Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka 2&1. Then Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood beat Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau 5&4.
Team USA kept their Ryder Cup hopes alive when Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson beat Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren 3&2. Then in the final match of day two Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas beat Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy 4&3.
